How to ignore a thread?

Is there a way to set the forum software to ignore a thread?
There are a few threads in which I am absolutely not interested, either by their topic (fictional warships in novels), or by the kind of posts they contain (politics/nukes, etc).

Is it possible to get the forum software to indicate new posts for the subsection only when it contains new posts OTHER than that thread?

It's not possible without an addon. You can only ignore people with the built-in functions.

Just bringing this topic back up to say it would be very useful. There are certain threads that I have no interest in or find annoying that sometimes dominate the "new posts" for days on end. Being able to disappear those threads would definitely improve the quality of life on the forum.

I had a look and there is a $30 addon to allow people to ignore threads and also entire forums. I'll look into this on the test site and potentially implement it as part of the forthcoming upgrade to Xenforo 2.3.

I would like a blanket ban on any messages that only contain a link to an opinion piece.

If the repeat offenders don't alter behaviour, moderators might need to just delete any such message.

Im finding this more and more when clicking on a thread of interest, so much so that post after post is noted ...

'You are ignoring content by this member'

... the only issue being when I click to see what has been posted just in case, I find its merely fluff irrelevant to the subject at hand anyway

I guess I'm getting old but the exponential rise in 'social chat', 'alternative' and speculative posts (usually from an ill hidden belligerant perspective) really bring nothing to the forum as a 'SECRET PROJECTS' resource.
My hats off to the moderators for keeping it as on track as it has been, herding cats comes to mind !

Yes, you ignoring them doesn't mean they ignore you.

Combined with the existing "ignore member ", it will be very useful and efficient. Still love this forum, but too much clutter and a degrading signal to noise ratio.
