The latest, Rasputin, arrived inYorkshire from France. I think he was named after 70sdisco song rather than a Russian monk, but either way he is impressive.
Yes I admit it, with 60s projects Polars are my other nerd zone

Bloke - 'There's nothing to eat apart from other grizzly bears.'

In 1943 a polar research station was transferred from Cape Dzhenretlen [ru] to the western part of the island, staffed by 3-4 people by the late 1980s. The last director of the station, Alexey Spasskin, launched an amateur radio service from the island in 1989 with the call name УЖ1ПОЛ/УА10 and the callsign АС65. The station was ultimately closed in February 1992.[4][5] In September 2025, drone footage revealed that the research station has now been taken over by a group of polar bears [6].

Which is larger polar bear or kodiak ?

Polar bears are bigger in an absolute sense but Kodiak are more muscle and bone while Polars have a higher percentage of fat. I would expect Kodak bears would prove stronger if Polar bears were not afraid of Brown bears.

When I was up in Svalbard years ago, our guide also carried a flare gun to use in a first instance before going lethal option. He was telling us that once he had to use the flare option too - he fired in the general direction just wanting to scare it but the flare actually hit the bear.

Grizzlies are less aggressive.

Polar bears are one of the few animals that will hunt humans. They also don’t have visual ques they are going to attack.
