Amazon just revealed its first home robot.

In the 1960s, I watched the animated TV show The Jetsons. It was about a family living in the future in the U.S. There were robots. The family dog was named Astro.

Unfortunately, something along the lines of the Terminator is the goal. Simple jobs at first, but as AI systems improve, it can take on more and more sophisticated tasks. On the other hand, while replacing humans, because they're so expensive and occasionally unpredictable, with robots that don't eat or sleep is seen as a good thing by bean counters, the impact on regular human workers needs to be taken into account. So-called consumer spending is a big part of the economy. It can't drop overnight and leave behind a large number of unemployed people who can't buy much.

I am confident that business leaders have worked through the scenarios in advance since the loss of buyers for their products will lead to lower sales. They can't have that.

As ever Brexit Britain is world-beating and all households will be receiving a Covid helpmate (illustration attached) to make up for the removal of government furlough payments.
