SpaceX (general discussion)

Better yet, launch an orbital payload.
Fakt check
Blue Origin: Suborbital flight 14 - Orbital ZERO
SpaceX: Suborbital 100 - Orbital 118

yeah Musk rules absolut
also launch market...

...So, any reason why it scrubbed today?
Unofficial word is that they didn't like the recovery weather - ie if SN15 landed it would've been hours until they could hook it up to a crane (it has to first be rendered safe, then they need to transport in one of the giant crawler cranes, set that up, get a transport for SN15 next to it etc), and during those hours of SN15 being unsecured, the winds were expected to potentially approach unsafe speeds that could possibly tip the vehicle over (the temporary landing leg design tends to leave them at a bit of a lean in the first place).

Yeah, hell with that. Good call SpaceX!

Recondenser is venting, so they are actually going for it this time. T-30ish minutes, if there are no holds.

I'm skeptical that they'll re-fly SN15; the word I've read is that they're doing 16 and then maybe 17, then going forward with orbital testing on SN20 once the orbital pad and tower have been completed, and Super Heavy has been tested.

"You did it. Crazy SOB you did it. " ( Jurassic Park).
Bravo SpaceX !

according Musk previous Tweets

comes after successful Hop, high altitude test flights (landing on sea on Phobos and Demios ?)
i guess that SN17/18/19 are drop for SN20 the orbital test vehicle
There almost no hardware for those three on production side and most piece are for SN17
next is SN16 (mid May), NC02 test and BN02 (late June) suborbital test ,
To refurbish SN15 makes sense, to gain data, on how fast a used starship is launch ready
if NC02 (nosecone 2 in cage) test fail, there will be re-design and testing NC03 before SN20 flight.

and why do i have this odd feeling those 12 meter ø tanks at fuel farm, are in same time testbed for large diameter Starship/Superheavy ?
Musk talked about those several time

Can someone enlighten me on several points?
Space shuttle had some of the slowest re-entry speeds ever for a space vehicle, correct?
Allegedly the temperature it endured at re-entry was some 1500 degree Celsius. It was aluminum with a lot of ablative shielding.

SpaceX's Starship is all steel, with allegedly no ablative shielding to be used for re-entry? Will it get any other kind of cover? At one point I read about fairly simple ceramic tiles?

What re-entry temperature, at its maximum, is expected for Starship? Will it somehow be below 1300 degree Celsius? If I am not mistaken, most steel alloys melt at close to such temperatures.

Pacing items for orbital flight is unlikely to be Starship itself but GSE & Super Heavy.
