Swiss Armed forces musing a heavy lift capability ....

At present their medium lift is provided by Airbus Helicopters AS332M Super Puma / AS532 Cougar (my photos below from 2015 Royal International Air Tattoo). Xmas I did hear of rumor that Schweizer Armee were sniffing around likes of Boeing and Sikorsky for such a capability.

The Austrians tried this in 1969

F35B and Ch-53K! (fingers crossed)
why B over A out of curiousity?

i think since Switzerland is just doing defense, it may be fine with the shorter radius of the B.
but i don't think they are that demanding of svotl. just the ability to take off from highways irc

They were evaluating the A model 2 years ago as Hill AFB finest deployed to Spangdalhem AFB in Germany for European deployment In summer 2019. One or two F-35A went south to Payerne in Switzerland for the evaluation (photos from Schweizer Armee FB page)

One came across to Paris Air Show ( I was at the brief)

Couple came over to RAF Marham for interoperability with regard to hot pit refueling,

If anyone on here please drum up an artists or CGI of a King Stallion in swiss markings, be appreciated.

cheers

I guess this will be another case of Chinook vs Stallion?
Ive noticed in these matchups, the Stallion tends to win more often.
any reason why its more preferred?

The problem with the 47F and the Block II, its what you can carry and only so far you can go with evovling the design. COuntries like Germany and Israel look ahead for the next 3/4 deacdes

The Israelis used to heavy lfit with the CH-53 for five decades why go down a notch lose that capability with the 47?

Hopefully when the Bundeswehr comes back to reinstating the STH competition, they will look favoroubly at the King Stallion as they have operated the the 53G/G/S/GA for five and half decades.

Cheers

Another reason may well lie in Boeing's recent difficulties in general.

I ought to have Chris Gibson's Air Staff and Helicopter book for his explanarion of why the RAF wanted Chinooks rather than Stallions. My copy is buried in my piles of books which have got more chaotic as I try to tidy up during Lockdown.

Probably complexities associated with sustaining the 53 such as maintenance et al.

Wonder With Switzerland choosing the F-35A this should open the doors a wee bit.

Anyhow it was around 5 years ago I was in my other neck of the woods across the border in Austria, hanging with my friends in the Heli industry, told that Columbia Helicopters were considering a contract in Switzerland. It was implied using KV107 (or their BV-234 Chinook) was going to do a contract re logging. But the joke was Columbia make money on their ops There’s couple of heavylift operators with Super Pumas including Heli-Austria have a base at Mollis near Zurich.

cheers
