Good info and images. The M.20 shared some of its DNA with the M.18 two seat trainer; they had similar proportioned tail feathers and probably shared the same method of construction. Here's a photo of the only surviving M.18 in a museum in Scotland.

Lovely little bird that never got a chance !
A good, and good looking, fighter certainly. It was probably a wise decision not to produce it, though. Spitfire and Hurricane were already there, and adding another type would have increased the logistics issues in production and maintenance.
 
How did the naval variant compare with the first/land prototype.
Captain Eric "Winkle" Brown said that the M.20 naval fighter was a poor choice for deck landings.

Odd statement in Jarrett's article: "The new straight wing had to be thicker than a metal one... ".
Maybe, but not as thick as it turned out. F. G. Miles was stuck on thick wings which became
a point of contention between F. G. and Don Brown. The M.20 may have been designed by
Capley but he was clearly working under F. G.'s directiion and to his preferences.
