The DINFIA industrial complex developed the prototype the first turbo-prop aircraft designed and built in South America; the I.A 50 Guaraní II first flown on April 23, 1963, was flown. Originally the prototype, which made its maiden flight in mi-196 retained the high-mounted tailplane with two fins and rudders of the I.A. 35, but it was later fitted with a single swept tail rudder. This model introduced de-icing equipment and Bastan VIA turboprops, more powerful than the IIIA of its predecessor. The Guaraní II bearing civil registration LV-X-27 was officially presented to government authorities on December 11, 1963.
