Lazar was first conceived in 2008 as MRAP vehicle, but that concept was later evolved into general purpose troop carrier in Lazar 2 vehicle.

Lazar existed only as a prototype, but Lazar 2 will be produced in new Složeni Borbeni Sistemi (Complex Battle Systems) factory in Velika Plana.
