k.u.k. Luftfahrtruppen Aero-Engine Supplier Code Numbers
Only major Austro-Hungarian aero-engine suppliers were assigned supplier code numbers by the k.u.k. Luftfahrtruppen. As with k.u.k. LFT airframe types, these aero-engine supplier code numbers were the first numeral in the sequence for Bauart numbers identifying specific engine types. Bauart numbers, in turn, formed the basis for individual engine serials.
One oddity is that the aero-engine supplier code number '4' was never assigned. Owners of the Hiero design - Warschalowski, Eissler & Co. - had received aero-engine supplier number '3'. [1] It seems likely that number '4' was held back for potential growth by Hiero licensees. Perhaps, none of those Hiero licensees were productive enough to warrant their own supplier code?
Below, major aero-engine supplier codes are listed numerically by assigned code number, official abbreviation (Abkürzungen), common name, and location. Notes may follow on the firm's full name or comment on products licensed. (Note: Unnumbered aero-engine supplies - ie: those assigned code '0' - will be given after the numbered listings.)

[1] The Hiero range of inline engines were designed by German-born Austrian engineer, auto racer, and pilot, Otto Hieronimus (1879-1922). Otto Hieronymus designed his first aero-engine - the 1909 55 hp Hiero 4 - while at Laurin & Klement in Bohemia. However, in May 1911, Hieronymus became the technical director for the Österreichischen Industriewerke Warchalowski, Eissler & Co. There he designed his Austro Daimler-inspired Hiero 6. As such, though named for designer Otto Hieronimus, the Hiero engines were really products of his employer - Warchalowski, Eissler & Co.
