The idea will require substantial doctrinal changes, especially at the RAF, in order for the industry to make the required hardware. Premise of the thread is that the change in doctrine happens by early 1942, so the resulting hardware and use of it can happen come early 1943 - some time will be needed to get the ideas to materialize, to be tested, debugged and put into series production.
One of the obvious improvements would've been getting the P-47 a drop tank type that feeds reliably even above 25000 ft, where the US heavies were flying.
