AW&ST reported the SWERVE reaching Mach 15 causing plasma accumulation preventing convenyional communications to the vehicle. The article stated the vehicle would need the width of the US to make a turn.

The flight test reports and congressional testimony say differently.

SWERVE demonstrated communication through plasma, maneuvering, use of a radar through plasma, the first miniature GPS (before SWERVE they were the size of a briefcase), GPS with INS.

If you have reference to the specific Aviation Week article that would be great. Of the articles I’ve read this is not familiar. In one article about SWERVE from the 1990s Aviation Week incorrectly represented what Sandia told them, but that wasn’t the article you seem to be referencing.

AW&ST has been known for leaking falsehoods. I greatly admire this forum but would need to be paid to research. Not being close enougn to it, don't really trust any source except personal recall.

Have there been any disclosures of the AFLRW requirements outside range? Most people are assuming a solid rocket that breaks atmosphere, but that seems like an incredibly expensive mechanism that occupies a lot of volume and mass. Not sure what that buys over the ALBM effort, unless that has been rolled into LRW.

So what are Defense Planning Scenarios 2.1 and 7.1?

Apparently, Defense Planning Scenario 2.1 was mentioned as part of Day 2's agenda during the 2024 Strategic Interchange Meetings (SIM) by the Air Force Research Laboratory under the title "Defense Planning Scenario 2.1 2032 Campaign Brief", as seen in this pdf here:

Other than that, it and Defense Planning Scenario 7.1 do not have much information on the internet, and I presume that it would be something that's currently classified, given that said meetings it was part of were also given the classification level "SECRET//NOFOR", and attendance was open to US Defense Companies only.
