Unicar armoured car

Here are scans from a book "Von der Zugmaschine zum Leopard 2" by Walter J. Spielberger, which was published in 1979, showing mysterious (to me at least) armoured car prototype that was built sometime in the late 1960s or early 1970s (as far as I can understand German, which I don't speak)...

Hopefully members of this forum can add some info as for the design history.
