Trying to ID a piece of military hardware (possibly Ferranti INS related)

I am trying to figure out what this piece of equipment is, I saved it from being scrapped as it looks so cool. Someone suggested its to do with the Ferranti INS system, some kind of test equipment, which has led me to this forum. Can anyone help?

Just a WAG, but with controls with names like 'gimbal' and accelerometer', possibly a test unit for an inertial platform ?
