If you happen to have a copy of Peter Kurans "Atomic Filmmakers: Behind the Scenes" you can see an interview with the sixth man at Ground Zero, cameraman George Yoshitake, who stated that he had the only protective gear other than the sunglasses seen in the film... a baseball cap!
