Sukhoi S-86
Type: Seven-seat twin-turboprop multipurpose transport.
Program: Completely redesigned successor revealed in 1992 to original S-86 project design shown above. Program canceled in 1995.
Design features: Unconventional high-wing configuration sweptforward wings of high apect ratio at rear of fuselage, with center-section of much increased chord extended rearward to carry widely separated twin tail units; small foreplane; main wheels of landing gear retract into large sponsons; wingtip pods with winglets; powerplant drives contra-rotating propellers between tail fins.
Flying controls: Ailerons and two-section trailing-edge flap on each wing; twin rudders and elevators on tail unit; moving trailing edge surfaces on foreplanes.
Landing gear: Retractable tricycle type; single wheel on each unit.
Power plant: Two unspecified 404 kW (542 shp) turboprops driving pusher contra-rotating propellers through combination gearbox; flush engine air intake each side of fuselage.
Accommodation: Pressurized cabin; three pairs of seats, second and third rows club-style with table between; seventh seat to rear, opposite washroom and toilet on starboard side; baggage compartment on port side after of rear seat; door each side of flight deck; passenger door in center of cabin on port side; alternative cabin arrangements for cargo. medical, and patrol missions.
Systems: Pressurization system gives cabin altitude of 2,400 m (7,875 ft) at normal cruising height.
