Regarding my posting, incidentally it was the people trying out the model that found the trial fun. In contrast with the daily dangers they faced at RAF Helensburgh (source Sqd Ldr Tanner MAEE) Everyone was involved, from the chippies to a test pilot in this project, a first step in aviation history. Later, of course, MAEE suffered another fatality when Sqd Ldr K A Major died on August 12, 1949, testing SR1 TG271. We now have a memorial to those who served at RAF Helensburgh/MAEE at Rhu.
