Question about tank gun overpressure

So from what I've read the Abrams has a massive overpressure from its main gun that complicates infantry support operations is the same true for other tank guns like the rifled L30A1 used on the British Challenger 2
 
Yes. generally nobody are supposed to be near and up front tank or any other large caliber gun while firing.

You can expect exit pressure of maybe even 1000 Bar. that's more than enough to kill nearby bystanders.
 
Thanks for the reply stealthflanker I guess other than firing HESH rounds there really is no reason to go for rifled over smoothbore
 
you can go a small amount over the limit but that is not good for the gun so not several thousand psi over the limit if you were to massivly over pressure it the barrel or chamber might be damaged or it might even make it unusable
