My friend Gary Jones flying, filming, and catching his 8' B-36. It is built of Bluecore 1/4" thick sheet insulation foam and is powered by 6 10 gram electric motors. He shot the video with his hatcam, a camera mounted on the bill of his cap. I am the photographer to the right of the pilot.

It was flown a couple of weeks ago at the SMALL 2018 Fly-In in Mayflower, Arkansas. SMALL is a very informal unstructured event for anything that flies with the only limitation that power be electric equivalent or fuel motors be no larger than .25cu in (4.1cc). Most models are radio controlled, but free flight, control line, and rockets are also flown at SMALL.

Great pics. I love this sort of thing. My last rc aircraft sadly became a victim of a local tree and by the time the pieces fell out it was at the "rebuild this" point.

We take care of the airplane out of service problem by making sure we have many more on hand. Every pilot attending brought at least 10 airplanes in their vehicles and some even brought stuffed trailers. Fly-Ins are rare happenings and opportunities to get in prime flying time and no one wants to be sidelined by an unflyable airplane. We just grab the next airplane and keep flying.

This video of SMALL 2018 captures the spirit and atmosphere of the event:
