Hi! The artistic impressions for P-1 AEW from Japanese internet site.
Sorry for probably being again too much critically, but as far as I remember these images were already shown long before the first P-1 was actually flying. As such I would take them with a huge grain of salt, maybe even more as fan-arts or simply what-ifs ! ???

IMO the final P-1AEW will look completely different.

Anyway thanks for posting.

Multiple AESA within a non-rotating rotodome (so that would be just a 'dome') will give 360 deg coverage. This is not possible with the Wedgetail/Erieye configuration.

Wedgetail has a 360 coverage area.

Not from the main array. You can't beat geometry.

There are endfire arrays in the top "surfboard" of the Wedgetail antenna system.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_737_AEW%26C

"The 10.8 m long by 3.4 m high antenna assembly incorporates 7.3 m long by 2.7 m high Side-Emitting Electronic Manifold array, with the top hat supporting array providing 120° coverage on port and starboard side, while the top hat array itself provides 60° fore and aft, thus providing a complete 360° coverage."

Which have massively smaller apertures than the main array and resulting far smaller ranges. The result is a gap in coverage fore and aft of the aircraft.

Hi! P-1 and P-8. It's so big that the size of the window of P-1 isn't believed. Also MAD is large.
The Japanese airplane is a gorgeous design unusually. ;D

The most comprehensive news presentation I've ever seen on an aircraft and I sure wish I knew what was being said. Cool floating graphics of the P-1 and P-8 being compared. The P-1 is my new favorite anti-submarine aircraft. Makes the P-8 look like warm milk. Anyone count the number of aircraft types in the story? Great shot of the F-18's shadow on the P-8.

Any chance of a translation?

Here some pictures of a successor of the NAMC YS-11EA/B for the Japan Air Self-Defense Force. It is based on the Kawasaki C-2.

Great link. Don't forget to watch the great video of 5 C2 in formation flying as viewed from the cockpit.

Looks like the new Japanese C-2 is about 1.5 times the size of Brazil's KC390 transport. We wonder which country will export more transports????

Brazil, probably by a large margin. Size is not the end-all.

The C-2 would have a broader chance if it had it had tanker capability. Surely it's something they could add on and give the design higher flexibility. Hell, it's probably in the works for all we know.

First time I saw the P-1 was flying at ROyal International Air Tattoo 2015 at RAF Fairford so here seems photos below. Kawasaki were keen on promoting the P-1 to our MoD for an MPA replacement of our Nimrod....

cheers

How does the C-2 hit its STOL specs without an externally blown flap?

large T/W ratio provided by the CF-6 engine maybe ? The T/W based on wiki shows 0.4. quite considerable slightly more than B-1B and Tu-160 while basically twice the commercial jetliner.

Thanks. I'd forgotten how powerful their CF-6 variant is and how big those thrust reversers are.

on the subject of the P-X,
does anyone know why Kawasaki stopped development of the related YPX?

It was more or less a P-X with two engines, modified for commercial airlines.
the P-X is about the same size as the 737 and the YPX was claimed to be 15% cheaper to operate

Seeing as how the short range haul aircraft is the largest market and a ton of people are entering
I'm surprised Kawasaki doesn't continue its development especially as most of the airframe is 'proven'

size comparison

Germany no longer interested in the P-1 because they think it can't get military certified in 5 years
