Ilyushin IL-100 PAK VTA

Would it be a Chinese design, the social media all over would once again call it a copy!

This is what the reputation about.

As for the Il-100 itself, it will be produced at "Aviastar" plant. Engines - PD-24(26). Designation "100" indicates the load capacity. Strategic "Slon" apparently cancelled.

Here you can compare An-124 with Il-106, which is the conceptual predecessor of the Il-100.

Thanks for the info, but besides a surely existing requirement, how likely and realistic is it to ever materialise?

As such, pardon to be again the one who ruins the party, but they so far didn't get the much smaller and simpler Il-112 ready and now such a monster without an engine available??

112 had two major problems: it was overweight (which, allegedly was solved and next test plane supposed to be less heavy) and the second being overtuned TV7-117ST engines. Russia lacks new turboprop engines with power over 3k hp, so they tuned TV7-117. Looks like TV7-117 allegedly also recieved cerification in 2023, but that's likely less powerful and throttled variants for TVRS-44 and Il-114. But there are mentions that 114 production is moving 1 year forward (it was planned this year, but some sources say it will start in 2025), so there might be some teething issues, though it may not concern engine.

There are mentions of 112 with PD-8 engine, but it's essentially a new plane in this case.

For Il-100 engine is developed from scratch: PD-35 family (or they can use D-18T as stopgap. Looks like Russia did started low-rate production to support their An-124 fleet, if that report to Shoigu is to be believed), we'll see how it's turns out.

Also, unlike Il-112, I don't think that this plane they would develop in their lonesome. I expect both TsAGI's and Sukhoi's and Yakovlev's help.

None of Russias commercial aircraft projects have made progress over the last decade, so I have little faith in a strategic transport.
Comac C929 - China decided to go it alone after not making any progress during a decade of joint development.
Irkut MC-21 - Attempt to modernise a decades old design
Superjet 100 - Fashioned from foreign parts in early 2000's and an availability rate lower than 25% (for a commercial airliner!), the only foreign operator went bankrupt and the intellectual property to manufacture them outside domestic use and international marketing rights were sold off.

Superjet 100 was sold to Markab Capital Investments in 2023, the parts fabrication plants in Mexico were shut down the same year.
Comac dissolved the partnership with Russia in August 2023 and said it was going back to the design board.
MC-21 has had numerous design changes and alteration to materials since the first prototypes were completed (which experienced wing box cracking) and first deliveries not using old stocks of foreign parts and PW1000G engines not now expected until 2027-2030.

They even proposed to restart mass production of legacy Tu-204/214 and IL-96.

Frankly if you dont think Russian commercial aircraft production is a shambles you are deluded.

Hard to guess.
Until 2022 it looked somewhat reasonable, if ambitious.
But now industry is expected to go from half-stasis into gallop amid war - i.e. literally all soviet design houses now have large, "flagship", projects with delivery time within this decade (other than MiG...and Antonov).
How it's expected to be solved - no idea.

Several clean sheet projects have been developed in Russia over the last 30 years, some/most of which progressed to the OKR stage and one (very complex) resulted in an aircraft that is operationally deployed:

- T-50/Su-57 (PAK FA)
- T-75 (LTS)
- Izdeliye 80 (PAK DA)
- Izdeliye 41 (PAK DP)
- Il-212 (LVTS?)
- Il-100 (PAK VTA)
- PMKI (Izdeliye 49?)
...

The former was largely a technological breakthrough and was materialized during a very difficult period of the last decade.

After the 2022 sanctions, Russia began to pay much more attention to the security of domestic technologies, which is supported by the fairly significant economic growth that occurred after the sanctions were applied.

In addition, the formation of the base of the new generation of power units, based on the gas generators of 2 new key products (Al-51F1 and PD-14), was practically completed.

We will see what fruits this development will have in the current decade.

Where did you pick up this BS?

The Aviastar plant in Ulyanovsk (a subsidiary of PJSC Ilyushin) plans to start production of two new aircraft: the Il-100 (Slon) super-heavy transport aircraft and the Il-276 medium military transport aircraft. This was announced by the governor of the Ulyanovsk region, Alexey Russkikh, during a live Q&A session with regional residents on December 3.
https://rg.ru/2025/12/03/reg-pfo/v-ulianovske-budut-vypuskat-dva-novyh-samoleta-il-100-i-il-276.html
The Il-100, which in many ways resembles the legendary An-124 Ruslan, is in the design phase, while the Il-276, a smaller twin-engine version of the Il-76, will find its place in transport aviation, especially for military purposes.

It's bringing up Dec 2025 news from the above post with rather bad/uninformed speculation.
