Akash Systems, Inc. announces it has successfully demonstrated a palm sized X/S-band satellite radio capable of transmitting data at a data-rate of 650 Mbps. The radio is enabled by the use of synthetic diamond as a substrate rather than silicon or silicon-carbide. Diamond is ~four times more thermally conductive so at equal power GaN-Diamond transistors will exhibit temperatures 80% & 40% lower respectively.
Aside from satellites I expect this would prove especially useful for mobile radars, allowing them to switch from liquid to air cooling and slimming down the generators they'd have to haul.
