Douglas D-1965

Another potential pricy addition to someone's collection.

Interesting, did it was a concurrent of the XB-70 contract?

I like the detachable nose upper part to change the nose from inflight to landing mode.
D1965 suggests we are more in AMSA territory.
Lovely model for the serious collector but I have to live with my cheaper Philipino ones.

FWIW, I am skeptical that this is a Douglas in-house model - some details seem "off" such as the base design. And "1965" is part of a block of Douglas numbers reserved for the Tulsa Division, not Santa Monica where the Model 2229 commercial SST originated. YMMV.

Looking at the actual model more closely it does look like the mahogany Philipino models in my collection rather than a 1965 Precise/Topping model. It has no blemishes or slight abrasions which a half century even in kind hands leaves.
The stand is also not one I have seen before.
