On 21 July 1952, The Canberra Times printed a garbled account of one of Prof. Piccard's statements. Somehow the journos turned Piccard's quest for $250,000 to pursue high-altitude telescopes into the fare for balloon-borne passenger flights to Mars

The paper doesn't identify its feeder source but the article is datelined "DUNCAN (B.C.)". Does anyone know the origin of this news feed?

Someone who has convinced themselves that beryllium construction is the answer to all challenges Sure, beryllium alloy is light but its also really brittle!

It's not exactly the winged airship; it's a balloon with water sprinkler machine beneath, apparently for irrigating the fields & creating artificial clouds. "Wings" aren't for lifting force, they are merely wide frames for sprinklers.
