Could the Courageous-class battlecruisers have been improved while keeping with their original layout of 2x2 15" guns? As a sort of littoral proto-'large cruiser' (alluding to the Alaska-class cruisers in WW2), they showed some promise. I believe it a bit of a shame to have never seen these cruisers fight in their intended combat scenario – a YOLO British invasion of Pomerania in WW1.

I would begin with the armour (of course), which could be thickened a bit to protect the magazine areas. Next would be doing away with adopting 18-inch guns on either Furious or all three of the ships, and then (perhaps for a successor design) finding a way to give the ship design better internal structural integrity. There would also be the addition of more anti-aircraft guns amidships.
