Hi,

the OKB Chyetverikov was a Soviet aircraft design bureau headed by designer Igor

Menzhinskii factory in 1931 in order to produce flying boat and airplanes.

Its aircraft were;

MDR-6B
MDR-6B2
MDR-6B3
MDR-6B4

Does anyone know what the original OSGA-101 designation (for the SPL) stood for?

My guess would be:
OS = Obshchestvo Sodeystviya* +
G = Gidro (Hydro) +
A = Aviatsiya (Aviation)

But I'd like to know for sure ...

Hi all

Oтдел строительства глиссеров и аэросаней (Department of construction of hydroplanes and snowmobiles)

Missing from your list :
  • Type 11
  • MR-3
  • OSGA
The SPL was also known as the SPL-1 and the "Gidro-1" (Hydro-1).

The MDR-3 was also known as the TsKB N° 11 (from Zavod N° 39).

MDR-6 (Che-2)
MDR-6A
MDR-6B
MDR-6B2
MDR-6B3
MDR-6B4
MDR-6B5
MDR-6 variants included B-1 to B-6.

The ARK-3 was also known as the MP-2.

TA
TA-1
TAF
All three designations refered to the same aircraft, didn't they?

PTI-M82
PT-2M82
There was no such thing as a "PTI-M82". It was the PT-1M-82.

There was no such thing as a "PTI-M82". It was the PT-1M-82.

All related, yes. It seems like the TA was the prototype (as first revealed); TA-1 was improved version (1947-1948); TAF was a reconnaissance variant prototype.

On other Chyetverikov subtype designations, there was the ARK-3-1 (retroactive for first prototype); ARK-3-2 (revised second prototype); and ARK-3 MP2 (akin to your MP2).

OKB Chetverikov also suggested a Shvetsov M-71 powered PT-1 variant. So, was there also a 'PT-1M71'? (If so, I've never seen reference to it.)

FWIW, on the twin-engined PT-2M82, I've also seen it referred to as PT-82 (perhaps an informal clipped form?) and PT-2M-ASh-82 (using the later Shvetsov prefix).

I presume that the "Jet Bomber" refers to Chetverikov's LK-1 twin-Nene jet bomber concept? The LK-1 reached approval for a mockup stage (although I'm not sure if that mockup was ever built). The 'LK' prefix was for letayushcheye krylo or flying wing.

Also missing from the list is the T-2M82 twin-tailled medium bomber concept. And KOR-2 flying boat should be Chetverikov KOR-2L.

BTW, both Chetverikov and Chyetverikov transliterations are being used here. hesham, perhaps you could amend the title to Chetverikov/Chyetverikov Aircraft?
