So was Claude Eatherley's "85" that bombed the Imperial Palace Tokyo a stripped down atom bomber?
Numer "82" became Tibbets's Enola Gay, was the whole set of these Martin build B-29's all part of the non armed, stripped back versions that Col Paul Tibberts requested all for the 509th bomber group, or was it part of a bigger production run - where did the B-50 variations begin. Does anyone have a condensed history of where the B-50 variant came from, and where the different engine power plants arrived from. I'm interested in the craft from its use as the dropship for Yeager's X1. but I keep seeing korean marked B-29s with navy insignia along with late Douglas X craft drops using USAF marked B-29 or later engined models.
Any Info would help us resolve a 3d model for a B-29 mothership / Yeager X1 build.
Attached 2 shots with similar X craft but the different B-29s
