And did so before the book was placed in the box to ship as the box is not damaged in a way which could have caused that.
One side of the box top having been pushed in a bit is not going to do that to a book which was laid flat in the box.
The closer I look at it the more I wonder if at least some of the damage happened at the manufacturer, look how that scuffed area of the cover fabric goes under the paper I forget the technical name for but it is given in a book I'm not going to go get off the shelf in the other room,

Hey folks, just so you know, the latest September issue of the aviation history magazine Aeroplane features a four-out-of-five star review of the ASP5.

File a claim with Amazon and let them know the book arrived in very poor condition. I assume they'll send you a replacement free of charge, and you probably won't even have to return the damaged one.

Remembering these posts a month later ... Decided to keep it, its damage fits well with damaged disabled me and damaged disabled Grumman cat, we all understand each other.
