It was clearly explained what happened. In Startrek: Voyager, season 2, part 1 - The 37s

LOL!!

There is a more rational explanation, published in
'Aeroplane Monthly', February 1989, pp.70-76,
which suggests that a combination of navigational
error, and fuel shortage, caused Earhart and Noonan
to ditch short of their landing point.

cheers,
Robin.

Gosh! And I thought the Star Trek version was the definitive one... :'(

How is the Movie "Amelia" starring Hilary Swank as Amelia Earhart, Richard Gere and Ewan McGregor?
I have seen the trailer, but it will be shown in Germany during summer 2010. :-|

May I also warmly recommend Joni Mitchell's song "Amelia", which appears on her 1978 album Hejira...

I hear it tries too hard to be Oscar bait and consequently really isn't that good a movie.

Every so often I come across references to distress calls from them after they went down that were picked up by Pan Am radio sites. Anyone heard anything about this?

In the article I cite above, the author dismisses
them as hoaxes.

cheers,
Robin.
