France unbuilt space launchers of the 60's and 70's

I always liked SuperVulcain B because it is really the largest Diamant derivative and the real funny thing was, it was an Europa III or Ariane 1 class launcher. It would be really awesome to get Supervulcain, Europa and Ariane 1 side by side on a shelf. Also, SuperVulcain was just big enough...

France unbuilt space launchers of the 60's and 70's

Great job ! I really, really want to see Supervulcain B for "real" that is a model of it. You can be pretty sure it will be a unique model in your collection or even in the world (Supervulcain B ? what's that ?) What scale for your model, by the way ?

this is truly outstanding work, the quality is like a model Actually does someone have bgire’s " The French National Space Programme 1950-1975" from JBIS 40 that he linked in the first post of this thread ? The link is dead

    Early european rocketry projects

Supervulcain B seems to have 8*Valois, each giving 35 tons of thrust. 8*Diamant = 2*Blue Streak = 1*Ariane = 280 tons of thrust and 5000 kg in LEO. :) 8*Valois = 4*RZ-2 = 4*Viking. The cluster of 8*Valois was called Octavie, what was build in the form of mockup was Catherine, a cluster of...

...once was online for free, but this belongs to the past, unfortunately. Long story short: the ultimate Diamant development project was SuperVulcain B: the size of a Soyuz rocket, and an alternative to the doomed Europa II when it ran in serious trouble in 1968. Imagine 8, then 4, Diamant...

France unbuilt space launchers of the 60's and 70's

Hello Folks :) Continuing my projects. Going to the last and biggest launchers: Bacchus and SuperVulcain, both of 1968. Both shared a new first stage, called Octavie, which was a cluster of four Diane (from Carmen), each with two ejectors, making eight Vexin in total. As with the Catherine...

And the laboratory itself has moved to Brittany thanks to the DGA (Brouz or bruz). I was wrong, it was not Europa III-D but III-E. https://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,4130.msg163798.html#msg163798 There is an indirect legacy between Supervulcain B, Europa III-E, and OTRAG.

Vraiment bien. Du beau boulot. The most impressive Diamant derivative ever imagined was the Supervulcain B, which rivalled a Soyuz or Ariane 1 in size. Do you plan to model that one ? https://www.flightglobal.com/FlightPDFArchive/1968/1968%20-%200795.PDF...

You mean Supervulcain B ? That was 100% french Plan B. Now LRBA may have dusted it off for M.A.N and Europa III... But only the first stage . A cluster of 8 was called Octavie. 4 modules was called Catherine and was mocked up in 1968.
