To keep things fun, here are a couple more of the models (posted in other forums) we made for my collection. From plans, all are made of Jelutong and have various scales (1/32 or 1/24th) and finished in lacquers and acrylics to the appropriate period. Enjoy this outstanding Northrop N59A proposal that was waiting in the wings in case the Douglas A3D was too big and heavy for carrier operations.

And one of my fav's, a Northrop N-63 that has a retractrctable tail cone when it sits. All of the probes are turned brass.

Or how about this Vought V-356 Ground Attack. Features retractable gun pods (magnetic cabinet latches). I love these things.....

Wow.... my own topic. I am honored. To keep this going here are a few others for your enjoyment. How about a Vought ADAM? Always wanted a model of one, and they were few and far between so made this from plans. And Bigger too....

Really nice, keep them coming. Thank you!

I love this idea. Everytime you post in a topic, I always wonder what other hidden treasures you have hiding in your collection. Thank you again for sharing them with us!

Happy to share with all...... and thanks for this opportunity.

How about before and afters? I can post some of the restorations and mods that I do as well as work from my friend Steve Williams. We collectively do work together on the weekends, me my models, and he for his clients.

First up - Here is an example of a great find on eBay that was a mess, especially when the box arrived with all kinds of rattles. This example is an ultra-rare F111 TACT in-house that everyone missed thinking that it was the smaller Topping model. The repair was to put it all together, make new art and decals and color match the gray. Over 60% is original paint as is the canopies, flight surfaces, and refueling position lines. It loathed me to reapply the tail marking crooked to match the original, but hey - restore is restore, not refinish. The first picture is from the original eBay listing.... a diamond in the rough and the rest shows the broken bits and the final process.

And when one is bored and have a bunch of blanks, this is what pops out....... The inspiration was from the triple tail wind tunnel model and a Precise A-10. Too mundane let me know?

I had traded off a 2 Navy seat A-7 and was left with a camo Navy that was unique, but I am fond of the grey and white scheme........so with a blank sitting around in a box, measuring the plug on the A7K, and a bit of bondo....taa daa! First picture is the factory K model and the mod process. Also in the works is converting an extra Northrop blank single-seat F-20 into 2 seater, and a couple of Topping Vought F-8 's into a 2 seater and a RF-8 photo bird. I'll post as I get them close to finished if you like.

Someone who works with honest to God wood. I like you already!

David

I thought I would send a teaser for the next in-works project. It's a Martin proposal for the LARA in competition against the OV-10 and others. So, from a picture, to 3 views and to an almost finished example, here is what is on the bench...... You can see where I added material to fit the profiles. I'll post when done as well.

I've had quite a few in the collection over the years and when I sold the collection they went to a new home. Circle 5 posted quite a few of my rare ones over the years. I must say that back in the 70's they were a lot easier to acquire and now-a-days the pickin's are decidedly slimmer. When I moved to the DFW area last year from LA I was hoping to come into a whole new collecting opportunities but it seems I am a few years to late as I hear "you should have been here a couple of years ago when........" I am still making great new friends and connections so lets see what we can find and share.

Army A-6 Intruder!?! When did they try that? I've seen "Army" A-4 and F-5 for test, was this a wild idea for the same test?

I was on the F-18L program when the F-5G/F-20 was being designed. My only involvement was with the Lee Begin-inspired "Super Tiger" mid/high wing design that we sketched out in competition with Sandusky's single-engined design. The only impact that had was to cause the rear of the canopy to be sloped back to improve rearward visibility. Later in the white world Advanced Design John B. designed the 2-place F-5H for us, which is why I have a scan of that. I never had an F-20 Technical Description and I gave all of my historical material to Ghostmodeler, the Northrop historian. I bet he has one.

Allysonca, any chance of getting more photos of the Northrop NGAF design? All I have of that are artwork and some cartoony drawings and a poor, small, 3-view? That's the design to the left (in the photos) of all of the Vought designs to the left of the F-22s. It has the dorsal inlet and the two stores mounted under the fuselage. I've always liked that design ever since I saw the artwork for it in AvWeek back in the late 70's. I also noticed you have two of the Boeing supercruise (Model 350) models. Do you really need two? ;)

I just showed my wife the photos of your amazing collection allysonca.
Her response was: "OMG, you have model envy, if you're lucky you could have a sleep over, because that isn't going to happen here!"

I was just thinking the same thing.

Retirement is now just a few years off - I have a good idea where I want to retire to and every property my wife sends me from there, there is a separate garage or pole barn from the house. A clear indication of where my stuff must/shall go.....

Enjoy the Day! Mark
