Artist's impression of Vosper Thornycroft FPH Mk3 concept designed to replace guided missile frigates and small destroyers, based on the Vosper Thornycroft VT1.

General characteristics:
  • 216 ft 6 in long
  • 62 ft 4 in beam
  • 60 kts
  • crew 35
  • 27,200 hp and 2 x 4,400 hp gas turbines

I think I posted this a while back in connection with the Royal Navy hoverfrigate. There is nice artwork in one of the Jane's Surface Skimmers (about 1970 or so) showing this design working with its Lynx and a Nimrod. It was aimed at protecting North Sea oil rigs rather than hunting Russian subs. As ever it was easier and cheaper to use conventional designs.
