Of course, we've all heard of the SPPU-22, SPPU-6 and maybe SPPU-687... but what exactly with the SPPU-30's intended role? What about the other flexible gun mounts under development in the early 80s?

Some information on the PP-27 mobile gun mount for the Su-27:

I'm also quite curious about the mobile 45mm TKB-700 that was being developed for the Su-25 during the same period:

Anyone know where I can find photos of any of these proposals?

A drawing of PP-27 is in Su-27: Beginning of Story by Ildar Bedretdinov et al (Be & Co)

So, I was curious if anyone had guesses as to why the TKB-700 was a smoothbore weapon?

Attached is an image of what is claimed to be the ammunition (uncertain provenance, I found the image on a Croatian forum). Overall, I'm left rather curious!

Smoothbore presumably because spinning a shaped charge is bad for penetration and they didn't want to depend on slipping/rotating driving bands.

Ah, interesting! Any idea how the choice would affect ballistics?

I expect they'd be fairly terrible. Basically, think of this as an automatic rocket launcher rather than a conventional cannon, so winds are going to be much more of a factor.

Makes sense. I ask because I can't think of any really comparable weapon.
