Single-engine, open-cockpit, parasol-wing aircraft of WWII?

OK, odd line of questioning, but here goes...

What are some single-engine, open-cockpit, parasol-wing aircraft that saw use (front line, auxiliary, impressed, anything) during WWII? Allied, Axis, neutral, doesn't matter.

The reason I ask is that I am starting a homebuilt aircraft project, a Clutton FRED. While waiting for my first bits of spruce to arrive, I'd like to start sketching out paint schemes based on real aircraft for fun.

What does everyone suggest? Common or obscure and, of course, a photo or link would be great.

Cheers,

Matthew

Others would be:

Douglas O-46 - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Douglas_O-46

So far the Morane-Saulnier parasol trainers catch my imagination the most though the bright interwar schemes of the Douglas O-46 have potential. I could, of course, go back to WWI to the Morane Saulnier Type L parasols of Roland Garros or Reginald Warneford, but since neither of them survived the Great War that would seem to be an unlucky choice. Any more suggestions?

Another that comes to mind is the Dornier Do-22 (although the rear cockpit was semi-enclosed). Do-22s served with Yugoslavia, Greece, Latvia, Finland, and the RAF.

As lancer21 said, gull-wings open up a host of other possibilities ;)

Thanks, all, for the many suggestions. How about WWII or interwar designs, something colorful and/or with a good story behind it? Here's a FRED pic to get your imagination going.

Cheers,

Matthew
