What is "early" about them?

Third one remained a project, but the first two depict the second XF-91 in its butterfly tail configuration, more or less the way it was actually modified... (minus the wingtip tanks)

It was XF-91 number two (46-681) that received the butterfly tail modification. -SP

The first of two XF-91 airplanes (46-680) is the one that got the F-86D-type radar nose. -SP
