Planes of the Future: Boeing's jet-transport designs include (bottom) a long-range double-deck plane with six turbojet engines mounted in gondola fashion; (top) a model with four turbo-jets and wing-mounted fuel cells and another four-jet design. Boeing Airplane Company today gave out an artist's conception of three of the firm's design studies of proposed jet air liners. At the same time, Boeing made public fro the first time some opinions of the company's engineers on the principal design characteristics they feel a superior jet transport should possess. The jet transport should have a long, thin wing, sharply swept back, similar to that of the Boeing jet medium bomber, the B-47, said Maynard Pennell, Boeing's chief preliminary-design engineer.
