« TRITINO » was a ramjet-powered surface-to-surface guided missile project studied by McDonnell in 1957, which included two (as yet undocumented) sub-versions: the Model 123A Tritino I and the Model 123B Tritino II. It was submitted to the U.S. Navy and was considered at some point as a possible alternative to the Polaris, as can be seen in this October 1957 document:

The title of said document is Preliminary Views on POLARIS in Relation to Recent Events.

One of the functions required of POLARIS is "an eventual tactical precision capability", which has "nothing to do with the national deterrent capability. [...] The precision required under this criterion is such as will permit use of low yield atomic weapons. This is clearly not in immediate prospect in POLARIS (the TRITINO proposal appears more promising).

An interim recommendation is therefore submitted "that installations of POLARIS on CVA and CG types in a tactical role be deferred until full study can be made of the precision requirements of the role, and the comparative potentials of various systems, including REGULUS II and TRITINO, for this role."

NOTE: underlining is NOT mine.
