So while it is true that the Midway Class were the first US CV's with an armored steel flight deck the Forrestal Class also had a steel deck but it isn't armored but strong enough to deal with jet aircraft (I'm sure a wooden deck would've been much heavier) would it have been possible to use STS (Special Treatment Steel) which can also be used structurally in addition to enhancing armored properties.
