Future soldier technology (modified thread)

“If Congress gives us the money that we’ve requested for IVAS in this year’s budget, we are going to use that to work with Microsoft to get the system to a place where our soldiers will want to use it,” Army Secretary Christine Wormuth told Senators on May 2. “And, if Microsoft isn’t able to do that, we will not develop the program further. We’re not going to spend $22 billion on a system if it doesn’t work.”

That's pretty neat, one of my chinese students was working on just that setup a few years back i wonder if theres a connection ? interesting it now looks to be somewhat workable as a prototype (We had problems with the pad seals)

Soldiers with previous experience in the National Guard have the highest Special Forces selection rate at about 60%, compared to their active-duty counterparts with a 53% selection rate. Some of that could be attributed to Guardsmen seeking to transfer to Special Forces having opportunities to train with those units before going to the selection course.

A 30mm version of the XM-25 would probably win, despite everything. Largely because 25mm is still too light, and body armor has largely caught up and now starting to exceed conventional arms. A situation where it's 30mm or bust. Though, if MetalStorm were still around, they would probably clinch it rather well, given 3GL's capabilities.

You're complaining about XM25 while touting a grocer hobbyist's bad gun design that came straight from the 1500's lol.

Anyway XM25 had no serious lethality problems.

Its main issues were legal. H&K failed to deliver on its contractual requirements for the product-improved prototypes, ATK took them to court, which meant the program was delayed, and canceled as a result of not delivering some 20 improved prototypes with Army recommended changes. XM25 would have gone through another ~30 months of testing had these been delivered on time.

Very likely the PGS prototypes will be one of these improved XM25 prototypes, with the same L3-Harris FCS, and 25x40mm cartridge. It may get a new FCS down the road towards production. It will probably still be issued at a basis of one per rifle squad and stored in the BFV/IAV.
