Hi,

the Fairchild M-103 was a five seat low-wing Navy personal transport aircraft project
of 1946,M-103 was powered by one 450 hp P&W R-985B-5 radial engine, and alternate
designation M-103A was powered by one 550 hp Fairchild ranger SG770C-2C inverted

That competition was won by the NAA/Ryan Navion that could do the same job on half the horsepower. Ryan sold hundreds of L-17s to the USAF and US Army. Thousands of civilian pilots also bought Navions. Significant numbers are still flown on sunny Sundays.

Hi Riggerrob,

but this project was for Navy ?.

Unless there is further evidence to the contrary, I doubt that the M-103 and the North American L-17 were in the same competition.
