Did they repaint 1001 in one of the green or grey camo jobs? They've got a FLANKER there now as well.

No, no. 101 maybe = 01 has the white scheme with red+blue stripes ... the twin sticker is actually 1021 or 1023 - resp. the 1. or 3. prototype. You are correct with the Flamker at Datangshan, which is most likely a static testframe from the first J-11A blocks (even if some say actually a B-model ???), since it had all the additional lead-weights mated all over its fuselage.

Just found over at Sinodefense posted by tphuang ... reportedly from 28. October !

If this picture is realy from the 28. October, then it must be another prototype / preserial .... and if I'm not wrong, the long nose-probe/sensor-pitot is missing !??

While I really like the aesthetics of the aircraft, I have no doubt that whoever came up with the paint scheme was working in a toy factory before.

At least some years earlier, we won't have seen such pictures ! ... also a new kind of "official declassification".

Not sure, but most likely from 2009.

Regarding the new J-10B pictures, it seems as if the next phase in testing has begun ... or maybe even operational intruduction !

Would be interesting to see the numbers.

I tend to agree with Deino, with these latest photos, this plane is looking less like a prototype, and more like close to being operational.

The appearance of the DSI might explain the previously 'kluged' rectangular intake with those funky supports. The J-10 was probably meant to have the DSI all along, but for whatever reason the DSI wasn't ready and they flew the prototypes with the temporary solution. Or at least that's an interpretation...

I am puzzled by the shape of the inlet, with the reverse scarf on the outer mold lines. I don't know how the diverter and the intake lips interact, but intuitively that does not look like a good high-alfa geometry. Then again i did not spend thousands of hours in a wind tunnel like the Chinese surely did.

Sure it is. The axis of the device is off from the axis of the bottom part of the aircraft, the "ribcage" are cut and smoothed, the opened panel is on the same place on the both, totally different fighters from the different countries, etc.

well, what's disturbing is that the lighting is almost identical and the lighting in the J-10 is inconsistent...

paneling seems different too...

This image below is actually quite old...It has been described as an early model of J-10 fitted with a Mirage-2000 style shock-cone intake. Also notice the different Vertical Stabilizer, referred to many on the net as a "Lavi-like" tail design.

For the comparison - detail of the FC-1/JF-17 intake.

OT: That's an interesting image! Unlike the F-35, the JF-17 inlet apparently retains perforations for boundary layer removal.

Saw JF-17 at Farnborough last Friday. They let me have a close look (the Pakistani AF chaps were very nice - if only all exhibitors were so welcoming). Many perforations on/around the inlet.

Most impressive was the size of the radome for such a small aircraft. Plus the store marked 'WMD'!

I found these interesting Russian illustrations of the J-10 at the China Defense Blog yesterday. Anyone know the history on these, and who did them?

Also, in the last panel there is a design of a twin engined naval J-10 design, with larger canards, and a tail-hook.

There have been rumors of a twin engine J-10 variant in the Chinese blogs for several years. This maybe hypothetical fan art, but its quite detailed if it is.

These are Andrey Yurgenson drawings from recent 'Aviakollekciya' monograph on J-10.
All J-10 verisions that look like hypothetical fan art to you - they are that, inspired by Chinese fanart on the web, with detailing added 'for credibility'. Well, twin-engined carrier-based J-10 drawings are honestly labelled 'supposed external view'
