This study for a light weight autogyro was conducted by students of the California Aero Technical Institute,
Glendale and closely based on the Focke-Achgelis Fa 330, a single example was loaned to the university.
A light weight fuselage and a landing gear was added, the rotor beefed up and the aircraft should have been
powered by a 40 hp McCullough engine. Although it seems, that actually work on the existing Fa 330 hardware
was done, the project silently died in 1949 due to a lack of student interest ! :(

Very nice! Is it possible to know what kind of source document you found it in?

Of course and sorry, that I've forgotten to mention it at once, although I'm nerving
often enough others with the same question.
As you probably already have assumed, it's from "Helicopters Of The Third Reich" by
Steve Coates which I got from the library yesterday.
