Seller's description:
This is a rare original vintage photo of the Air Corps XP-8 prototype delivered in 1927 and powered by the new inverted Packard 600 HP engine. Although delivered in mid-1927 the aircraft was not accepted as a service model and did not acquire an Air Corps registration number, AC28-359, until the Air Corps purchased the a/c in 1928. This photo bears the original BOEING stamp on the reverse and dates from the period when this aircraft was under development. The original news release/caption is with the photo. I removed it many years ago to protect the photo. An original vintage black and white 8 X 10 photograph in perfect condition with a slight discoloration along the top edge from the news release that had been glued to the reverse. This photo, like most of the 4000+ manufacturer, national archives, Air Corps, USAAF, USN, USMC and USCG aviation photos in my collection, came from author and pre-WWII USMC Col. Robert Rankin in the early seventies. Col. Rankin acquired them in his research for various aviation articles from the thirties through the fifties.
