I was more interested in this pic, which shows former vice-chair of the CMC Zhang Wannian being shown a model, rather reminds me of the famous Li Peng with model J-10 pic of a few years back...

Ohhh ... is this also from Zhuhai ?? ... and could it be that both "models" are the same ? ANd when You say the "former vice chair-man of the CMC ... Do You know until when he was in that position ?
Otherwise I'm not sure but isn't the other guy also known ? (I think from that carrier-related AEW-model) ???

Do You mean "pretty JH-7ish" in lne of being a "fighter-bomber" or in line of being a development of the JH-7 ?

In my opinion it looks very much - esp. this CAD-cut - like a design based and enlarged on the FC-1 / JF-17, but surely not a JH-7-based design.

Zhang Wannian was promoted to full general (i.e. four star) in 1993. He became a vice chairman of the Central Military Commission in 1995. He remained in that position until 2003.

Very interesting is this "new" WIG or flying boat (??) called "Jiao Long" !

... then new trainer CJ-7 as a CJ-6 replacement and a strange J-8T (T= tezhong = special warfare) maybe the JZ-8F recce version or a "rumoured" SEAD-capable model ! ???

No, ... the one on top is the Yak-130, whereas the one below is the Hongdu L-15.

The L-15 was developed in cooperation/assistance with Yakovlev and is based on the Yak-130, but it's a super-sonic trainer.

I think the JH-7A is the only original item in the whole lot. The rest look like western systems with circus paint on them.

YAK -130 is Russian and L-15 Chinese the resemblance certainly suggest Yakovlev influence as in consulting. Many China jets still look like kit-bashed US/Russian jets to me.
