A scene like that here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area would result in the end of all known civilization. No one around here is able to drive in the slightest amount of snow or ice!

This is from a few winters back....

Ugh. When I imagine "soul-crushing dystopia," it looks a lot like that. I can't imagine being packed into that sort of population density, in that sort of drab and dreary environment. I'd go buggo.

My nearest neighbors are something like 400 feet away, and that's too damned close. They'd probably complain if I built a 5000-lbf-rated test stand out back and fired off hybrids and the like...

View from my other window about 5 minutes ago, just to prove its not *quite* an urban distopia.

Buildings in front before the open green area are the Royal Artillery barracks.

Second view shows a curious geodesic hemisphere device I always assumed had some connection to the Rapier units stationed here.

And as far as urban distopias go, its not bad... Check out the Thames barrier, ready to save the richer parts of London from a flood from the sea. Unfortunately I'm on the wrong side... ;D

Not exactly from my window, but about 5 meters above, from our rooftop.
About 5km as the crow flies away from TXL Berlin Tegel airport... ;)
