oh i like them allot
it's sad there never build as real aircraft :'(

Unfortunately we still have no proof it works, especially in the Bizprop version. Half of the former designers I talked with claimed it was a lost opportunity, the other half thought it had been a lot of time and money lost in rubbish ...

However I was at SNECMA last wednesday and I was told some aeromodeller wanted to do a flying model of the C450...Something SNECMA planned originally but did not do...

One moment SNECMA build C.400 & C.450 WITHOUT first a scale test model ?!
by the way some of UVA drone proposals look like BTZ scale models ;D

I tell the whole story in my book but basically the plan was to
1°) test the feasability of jet-induced VTOL with a pulsejet (no torque effet) : done as the "écrevisse"
2°) test the feasability of jet-induced VTOL with a small jet engine (Marboré or the like)
3°) test the effect of the the ring wing by adding the ring wing on the mk2 flying model and study the transition phase with this R/C model
4°) procede with a manned demonstrator
5°) develop a manned ram-jet powered demonstrator

Because it was a private-venture SNECMA needed something to show up at the Air Show to get funding so the mk2 model was built full size (ATAR C400 P1) and developped into the manned C400 P2

the small ring-wing R/C model on which to test that a transition from vertical to horizontal flight was never built !

more astonnishing : in June 1959, while the first free-flights of the C450 were performed, there were still debates about the best landing procedure....

in term of project management many steps which should have been on the critical path of the development of the full-size interceptor were done in parallel !
