I have been doing some research on the Sperry Messenger related to designing a fictional U.S. Army Air Service paint scheme for a Clutton FRED as if it were a contemporary of the Messenger. In doing so, I came across this patriotic Messenger with roundels on the wheel covers and even on the cowling. Does anyone know any more about this plane or the "winged number one" on the fuselage in particular?
