Bough this unknown model from estate of a U.S. Air Force Colonel. He flew bombers during WW2 and later Jet fighters. He retired in the 1970s. Nose tip broken off, have a hole underneath for a stand.
Any idea what it is?

My first thought would be hobbyist model. Maybe the Colonel designed his own aircraft and decided to build it in his off time.

There are too many things that seem off about the design. The intake is awfully small and the style doesnt fit the era of wedge airfoils imho. The wing is also placed very far forward even if the missing nose if accounted for - just how long is the exhaust duct for the engine then? ect, ect.

Scott is correct -
Early Douglas MX-656 factory display model, with single engine, top intake and (I believe) a prone pilot position. From the Douglas model shop in Santa Monica, California

According to John Aldaz / circle5 here

Super, thanks for the info.
First time poser but I absolutely love to search these sides for knowledge. I used to visit John Aldaz whenever I had a LAX layover, miss that guy.
