Turkish UAV Developments & Fielding

Turkish defense industry thrives as Akıncı UCAV inks 1st export deal

TB2 has inked exports to 16 countries some of which have not been reported yet.

Turkish MOD has posted a video presenting some of the projects to start/finalise this year in 2022;

  • IHASOJ Electronic Attack payloads for UAV to start development
  • Mini UAV's equipped with light weapons payloads to enter service
  • BaykarTech TB3 STOL UCAV to perform it's first flight
  • Development of ASELFLIR-600 electro-optic turret to be signed, for HALE type drones
  • YONCA multi-core micro processor development project to begin

Selçuk Bayraktar:
"Azerbaijani experts are involved in the development of Bayraktar TB-3 unmanned aerial vehicle."
"Bayraktar TB-3 unmanned aerial vehicle, prototype currently in development, will have an endurance of more than 50 hours."

---

Before, endurance was coined to be at +24hrs, now endurance has more than doubled.

Why don't they do a GA out of the Bayraktar. I would love to fly such a beautiful airframe. I am sure many do share the feeling.
Imagine yourself able to fly across the Atlantic, and not by the northern route only, with a twin 300hp diesel or hybrid engine and 3 pax!

I wouldnt trust anything right now. We live in a time of extreme propaganda saturation. From all sides. Right now I'm trying to get what info I can and I am getting crazy conflicting reports. God speed to Ukrainian and Russian mothers, daughters, brothers, fathers and sons.

Literally just hours before Russia started its attack, two a400m of the turksih air force have been tracked flying inside Ukraine, one of those flying toward Kiev. One wonders what were they carrying.

Well, this time around. Russia does not have qualms to take down the drone base. Something of which, never happened in Syria or Karabakh.

I've noticed that this site extensively covers Turkey's UAV program. Are they a good source of unbiased information ? Cause honestly, some of their articles look like they were written by someone in the Bayraktar marketing dept.
Oryx is reasonably unbiased when it comes to anything that isn't Turkish or Azerbaijani. They do considerably overhype Turkish military equipment.

Zero evidence whatsoever it was Bayraktar, but hey, good to know Oryx yet again exposes himself as a propoganda/marketing outlet!

Same thing for the Tor and Strela, which were hit by nearby artillery fire (suspected) as they moved out of Crimea. I have not seen anyone suggest it was a drone strike until now. Good grief Oryx.

Note also in this context that the RuMoD list doesn't even refer strictly to TB2s - Ukraine operates a number of other UAV types, including US RQ-11s. And who knows what that pair of Turkish A400Ms now stuck at Boryspil airport was delivering.

While I'm certainly not suggesting there's any particular reason to take the Russian claims at face value, clearly Oryx isn't afraid to turn around and flagrantly contradict his own statements, either. There are even a couple of such instances of preposterous logical disconnects in his Blogspot articles, if you read them attentively. Be circumspect...

Didn't even knew four days ago, about Turkey drones. And now they have made a huuuuge splash in that war. This is Turkey aerospace industry very own "Dassault Mirage Six day war" moment.

But the Russians aren't even shooting back in these situations (well the systems aren't even active) so it's really just blowing up "trucks" rather than air defence systems.

A Ju 87 or IL-2 would be having the same effect

On the one hand, yes, that was also a common feature of SAM kills by TB2 UAVs in earlier conflicts. On the other hand - this is Russia not Armenia or a Libyan militia, you'd expect them to establish robust air cover over their ground forces, by flying CAP and setting up SAMs in the rear. A S-300 or S-400 on the border should be able to threaten high-flying MALE UAVs far into Ukrainian territory, and many of the army air defences are designed to fire on the move and protect forces while underway. It's possible that these columns overextended their air cover (there are certainly numerous reports of them overextending their supply lines) or Russia genuinely wasn't expecting Ukraine to put up much of a fight. There are some indications of the latter in the audacious airborne raid on Hostomel or the generally slow pace of committing the bulk of its forces.

Isn't that even more strange? At this point, we have plenty of video evidence of whole columns being destroyed from air and ground including those with a laundry list of Russian anti-air everything from TOR to Buk and yet here we are 5 days later and they seem surprised to be hit and worse aren't.

Russia is many things but one of them is a country that loves to talk about the incredible abilities of its air defenses. This is their top-of-the-line stuff and here we are with warmed-over SU27/Mig29 and a handful of slow MALE UAVs still being operational.

Many decades ago "TB- " was synonymous with mighty Tupolev bombers, tribute to Rusia air power - TB-3.
Nowadays it is the polar opposite - tiny Ukrainian drones playing havoc with Russian armor...

What Ukraine is lacking which would have complimented TB2 very well; Laser Guided Artillery Rockets. Extensively used during the Karabakh war to stop large convoys and hinder Armenian logistics.

Looks like this one may have some geo data from Wescam Mx-15 E/O interface; coordinates on the screen if not wrong, is near the town of Termahivla, about 85km northwest of Kyiv.

From the footage the explosion looks distinctly like that of MAM-C Tri-Mode warhead.

Despite preparations of Russia to train their EW operators against TB2 and import a downed TB2 to better understand the platform. Bain of Russia, Ukrainian TB2 continues to operate above Russian troops and air defences.
