*Strange* electronic pods on F-15

Found this beast at old ended eBay auction. Said to be from collection of late McDonnell Douglas executive. Anyone has more on this dramatic mutation? Giant IR seekers?

Some sort of directed energy weapon? Seems a little large for IR sensors.

They do look like transparent domes, but the pods themselves are to small to hold a device powerfull enough to generate the requisite power for a direct energy device.

Source points out that the airplane is painted blue, therefore early (all production aircraft were gray) and speculates that it might be an ASAT with some kind of optical tracking system (what is that store underneath?). If I had to guess I would say some kind of Foxbat-zapper.
