Hi all, in my dartabase I've got a few models of Conway engines that I'm having trouble finding info/aircraft usage on. Does anyone have more info on any of the following Conway models:
  • Conway RCo.1
  • Conway RCo.2
  • Conway RCo.3
  • Conway RCo.5
  • Conway RCo.7
  • Conway RCo.8
  • Conway RCo.14
  • Conway RCo.15 Mk.511
  • Conway RCo.15 Mk.512
And some Mk. or RCo numbers missing:
  • Conway RCo.15B used in the DC-8-43 - anyone know the Mk. for this model?

Thanks,
Nathan

P.S. I'm finally updating my database again, so there will be lots more posts like this on other engine models!

I'm curious about this too. At CP Air, they were just referred to as 'Conway RCO 15s' - no Mark number (or sub-type) given.

Most people assume that CP's DC-8-43s were powered by Conway RCo.12 Mk 509s. Which raises a question: Did CF-CPG, as finally delivered, retain the Mk 509s originally fitted to the record-breaking N9604Z?

The RCo.5 was proposed for the Vulcan Phase 3. I suspect it never found an application, as the situation moved on and improved variants were available.

RCo.3 - 11,500 lbf for Vickers V.1000. c.1952 (design work begun in Jan 1950)

RCo.5 - 15,400 lbf (V.1000, replacing RCo.3); 16,600 lbf with water-methanol injection

RCo.7 - 1957, installed in Vulcan testbed (prototype VX770)

RCo.8 - Planned Handley Page Victor 'Phase 3' powerplant (revised Victor 'Phase 2A' was to have RCo.11s)
